I was recently a guest on a podcast, and the host threw me a prep question I wasn’t expecting:
"What are your three favorite coaching questions?"

Not frameworks. Not tactics. Just questions. It made me pause because the best questions don’t give you answers… they give you clarity. They set you on a quest.
Here’s what I shared—and why these questions have become some of the most powerful tools in my work.

QUESTION 1:
“What do you want?”

This sounds obvious. Until you actually try to answer it. Not what you think you should want. Not what your industry, parents, or past self-wanted. But what you, right now, truly want.
You would be surprised how many people struggle with this question. This question strips away the layers. It forces you to own your desires. And once you're clear on this, everything else becomes easier or irrelevant.

QUESTION 2:
“Is the action you’re about to take in service of the future you want?”

We’re all busy. But busy doesn’t equal progress. This question helps you shift from activity to alignment.
If the answer is, no? Then maybe that email, that meeting, or that habit isn’t worth it.
It’s a simple check-in with massive implications.

QUESTION 3:
“What do you already know that you’re pretending not to know?”

This one stings. Because deep down, we all carry truths we don’t want to face. About ourselves. Our relationships. Our work. Our health.
This question doesn’t just spark awareness. It sparks responsibility. It nudges you toward action by making avoidance feel unbearable.

WHY THESE MATTER:
These questions won’t give you quick wins. But they will give you clarity. They’ll help you lead more intentionally, live more truthfully, and move with greater purpose.

  • What do you want? → Gets you honest.
  • Is your next action aligned? → Gets you focused.
  • What are you avoiding? → Gets you moving.

Try them. Ask yourself. Ask your team. Ask your kids. And if one of them stirred something in you. I’d love to hear about it.
These questions changed the way I think. Maybe they’ll do the same for you.

In all that we do, let us seek wisdom, discipline, courage & justice.
